Kindergarten Class

Kindergarten begins each day with a Biblical devotion, prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Christian Flag. The class then completes its weekly recitations. These recitations include Bible memory verses, manners, poetry, and important terms or facts.

Kindergarten Subjects:

Christian Studies: This subject is taught using Memoria Press’s The Story Bible and Christian Studies Enrichment. Kindergartners learn that Scripture is true and beautiful. They hear and discuss Bible stories from Creation through the death of Moses. Kindergartners will memorize thirteen Scriptures and thirteen simple prayers.

Reading and Writing: This subject is taught using Memoria Press’s First Start Reading set, Classical Phonics, Copybook I and Animal Alphabet Coloring Book. Kindergartners are introduced to letters and letter sounds. They are taught to read three-letter words through decoding. They also learn 67 common words. Kindergartners practice following a story line, answering simple questions about a story they have read, correctly use vocabulary, to predict events within a story, and to be able to orally retell a story. Kindergartners will understand that what is heard orally can be written using the encoding of sounds. Kindergartners will be taught to write letters and numbers with correct formation.

Grammar: Kindergartners will learn three sentence end marks. They will learn to capitalize at the beginning of a sentence. They will learn to identify plurals and possessives.

Math: This subject is taught using Saxon. Kindergartners will learn how to count in 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s. They will learn to write numbers 1-31. They will learn number sense, basic addition and subtraction facts through recitation and pictorial models, problem solving, time and the calendar, temperature, measurements, shapes, and problem solving.

Social Studies and Science: From living books, recitations, and enrichment, Kindergartners will learn about geography, history, culture, and the natural world through memorization, exploration, and discussion. Examples of important topics covered are life in Early American history and the attributes of the four seasons.


Kindergartners also participate in specials. These include Chapel, P.E., Art, and Music.
